Long considered a bastion of fine dining in Orange County, this venue has changed a bit -- but not a lot -- since new owners took over in 2002. New proprietor Freddie Glusman kept the same dignified Old World menu and ambience but instituted a few changes to the entertainment schedule. Now guests can enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres in the lounge at happy hour and live music on the outdoor terrace during the spring and summer. Martini and wine-tasting events are also held regularly. The pricey menu is heavy on seafood and steak, with seasonal specialties adding a bit of variety. Signature appetizers include crab cakes, fried calamari and hearts of palm salad. The splashiest starter is the Carousel, which includes a variety of chilled seafood items in addition to pate, prosciutto and steak tartare. For entrees, the Scandia filet Oskar is a classic. Other longtime favorites include osso buco, grilled sirloin and blackened prime rib. If you visit from in the winter or early spring, order stone crabs. The pride of Florida, they're frequently on The Ritz's menu from October though May.

A Nice Experience: Aug. 26/05
By ivalen8782 on 08/29/2005
Celebrated my Son's 27th Wedding Anniversary. Reservation time was honored within minutes of schedule. Waiter was very accomodating and hospitable. 3 Halibut specials and one Salmon special were ordered along with 2 Lobster Bisques, one Ritz Tossed Salad and their Beet Salad. All were prepared in an excellent manner and attractfully served. Although the price was high, it was ok for a once a year occasion.

Newport's Finest Restaurant !!
By dwdetrick on 11/03/2004
The Ritz Restaurant, the "Grand Dame of Newport Restaurants" is alive and well, and is still as elegant and delicious as it was 20 years ago ! For an appetizer, try the lobster bisque, the ritz salad, stone crab claws (in season !) or the fabulous carrousel ! For a main course, all of the steaks are tender and delcious and the bavarian duck is out of this world ! All meals come with a creamed corn casserole ! Try to get to the Ritz early for a drink in the bar ! The Ritz is a Newport classic !
