At a restaurant where every dish is served with a side of salt water, Splashes is beachfront hotel Surf & Sand's prized restaurant -- a coastline classic that serves food all day to customers that extend far beyond mere hotel guests. At Splashes, you don't have to go fishing too far to find something fresh or appropriate for the breezy setting. Using only organic fruits and vegetables, the menus are updated almost daily, and there's usually a bevy of oceanic classics for lunch, such as the steamed Prince Edward Island Mussels, curried seafood cakes and Idaho trout. For dinner, the Iced Pacific Shellfish platter and a sauteed Wild Alaskan Troll King Salmon make for good catches, and in the realm of beef, there's pork, lamb and even a filet mignon for you to chew on. Though prices can get a bit high at Splashes (dinner entrees average out around $30), it's a small price to pay when your hostess is Mother Nature. With plenty of windows that swing open to help guests bond with the ocean air, the interior is a pleasantly lit stone-floored experience that comes off as romantic in the evenings and "island casual" in the mornings. As hotel guests wander through the restaurant in robes (oddly enough, it's the prime passageway to the pool), you can swallow down coastal cuisine by the fireplace or on the two-tiered outdoor section, which occupies every nook possible in order maximize ocean viewing. Special tip: Be on the lookout for special seasonal menus such as their "cheese tasting menu," which can be truly Gouda times.

very disappointed
By Lapplet on 07/27/2008
We were a party of 14 w/ out of state guests for my mother's birthday clebration. We had to ask for bread after sitting there for over 20mins. Our server started the evening by telling us we had to be out by 8:00 because they had another reservation. We ordered 2 calamari and 2 tomato cheese dish as an appetizer. That was good. Then the entrees came...the chicken was dry, the halibut had a bizarre "rubbery" texture with no flavor, the pasta w/ the salmon was too salty, there were about 10 gnocchi in the gnocchi dish, the mashed potatoes were horrible. We should have all ordered the chicken fingers that our 11 yr old had. Along with 7 bottles of wine you could only imagine what the final check amount was. When I complained to the manager about how embarrassed and disappointed I was about our dinner, he just said "sorry" and didn't attempt to talk to my father whom was paying the bill. There are too many other good restaurants out there...I'd definately pass on this one.

We've eaten at Splashes many times and as always today's breakfast was perfect. Couldn't ask for a better setting. We'd highly recommend it to anyone.

Romantic Dinner
By ahtjan on 08/21/2005
My wife and I enjoyed a very romantic dinner on Sunday 9/11/05. The sunset view as always was fantastic. We had a very nice table by the window which allowed us to fully enjoy the sound of the wave crashing onto the beach. We started the dinner with the oysters with the wasabi caviar. For dinner, my wife had the veal and I had the Filet Mignon. The food was superb and the service was very attentive. We would definitely return to this restaurant, and would highly recommend it to those looking for a restaurant with both excellent food and ambiance.

Splashes is consistently extraordinary - the food is excellent, and the service is wonderful. I have been dining at Splashes for 5 years, and always take all out of town guests there - it can count on the view, food and service. Thank you Splashes.
