When it comes to exclusivity, Basilic may be one of the hardest places to gain entrance to in Orange County. After all, its dining room only has eight tables and parties over four people are shunned at the door to maintain an intimate atmosphere. But if you're fortunate enough to score a reservation, enjoy being pampered by Basilic's generous employees (it's not unusual to get served free appetizers or a glass of wine for no other reason than because the wait staff want you to feel like you're at a private dinner party). The authentic Swiss-French menu offers house-specialty appetizers such as raclette (a melted cheese and potato dish) and plates of gourmet dried meats. Entrees include saffron seafood stew, veal with wild mushrooms and brandy sauce and veal tenderloin with sauteed mushrooms. Of course, you can let the chefs do all the choosing for you with the house's surprisingly affordable five-course prix-fixe dinner.

We ate at Basilic on 1/1/03, the service was excellent, the food was fairly simple but very good. This is not a restaurant with complicated or overpowering sauces, but instead straightforward and tasty dishes. The chef even came out to say hello.....

This is a qaint little place that deserves a try. I've been several times and have always been happy. But for a real change of pace go for the raclette cheese night - call for details it only happens once or twice a month - and be sure to order a bottle of the fendant wine.......
