Newport Mesa locals love Greek Town Grill for its fresh food and fast service. Located in a strip mall on Costa Mesas hip 17th Street, Greek Town Grill is run by the Marutsos family, longtime proprietors of Lagunas more traditional Aegean Caf. As their first "fast casual," Greek Town Grills vibe is upbeat and classy with a modern shabby-chic interior of dark woods and sun-kissed shades of blue, aqua and yellow. The combo dishes (moussaka or organic chicken, pork and beef brochettes) are a bit pricey, but worth the cost and served next to delicate lemon-flavored rice and a refreshing Greek salad. There are also enough American dishes (burgers, fries, sandwiches, seafood specials) to satisfy picky eaters. Wine lovers wont be disappointed either, as Greek Town Grill gives generous pours of well-chosen European and California wines. Vegetarians note: Try the warm roasted veggie pita sandwich smothered in hummus.
