Having turned Taco Mesa into a thriving local chain, founders Ivan and Marco Calderon are ready to enter the world of destination dining. Their newest restaurant offers inviting, upbeat, family-friendly ambience and a unique menu. Some cultural elements are at play: for example, children can win prizes by playing a version of Mexican bingo. However, the theatrical aspect (there's an exhibition kitchen and a churro station featuring a chocolate fountain) and the emphasis on all-natural juices and organic ingredients clearly cater to jaded California crowds. The food has traditional Mexican as a base, but Mediterranean and Southwestern influences are also at work. A perfect example is the Tamal de Langosta, made with lobster sauteed in butter and steamed green corn tamales. Everything's listed on the menu board: there's not much of a distinction between regular items and specials. Interesting cantina selections include the pineapple mojito, the premium tequilas and the all-Latino wine collection.

Horrible Service!
By JBond3 on 08/03/2008
I wanted to echo something that has already been said here several times. The manager/owner ?!? of this restaurant is simply a jerk. Would not allow me to carry out my tacos as he told me I needed to purchase alcohol in his restaurant to get the taco tuesday deal. What a joke. What a jerk. Waitresses try hard but its seems to be slow service as the norm here. I think there is a bad attitude emanating fom the top.

Good Food, Great Service
By Piercingsilent on 07/05/2008
I come here all the time. It is by far one of the best Mexican restaurants I've been too. Brunch is really good and so is happy hour!!! Waaayyyy better than the Tustin (Irvine) Marketplace location.

Poor Service, good food
By BuhlTR on 05/17/2008
The food is good and the menu is interesting. I had some friends meet me there for a girls night out. We had to wait 20 minutes to get our check once we were done eating. You need to relax when you go there - dont be in a hurry.

So, so, GOOD!

I've been there several times now and I love it. Their deserts are to die for and their brunch is delicious. I've had several different waiters and I haven't had a bad experience with any of them. One young man had my husband and I laughing the whole time. I've had their burritos and enchiladas and their carne asada, all excellent. I'll probably be at the new one the opened in the Irvine Market place on Sun for brunch. YUMMM!
