8 Trax is where you need to be if you can't get enough of the '70s. With the exception of one night a week, all you will hear at this club is disco, disco and more disco. You've been warned. The club is three levels of bars, lounge rooms, overlooking walkways and dance floors. It is one of the darkest clubs you will ever enter. It is also one of the gaudiest. The walls are adorned with more day-glow paint, old movie posters and lava lamps than you can shake a mood ring at. It is, however, very infectious. With recent musical taste going to rap, angry-men metal, and electronica, it was neat to see how people used to dance. According to our recent anthropological studies at 8 Trax, you actually held your partner by the hand, twirled them around, choreographed your moves, and looked good doing it. No scowling faces, lewd acts, or disrespectful come-ons. Just a bunch of people who know the words to all the songs, from Diana Ross to KC and the Sunshine band, having a delightful time. On Thursday nights, 8 Trax goes '80s. Trade in your flared pants for big, spiky hair and black leather jackets. Here's your chance to groove to The Smiths, The Cure, the Smithereens and the Pixies. Admission to 8 Trax is through the main entrance of Pleasure Island, so you have to pay the $20 to get in. The crowd gets going around 10:30PM and is full energy through 2AM.
