There's no way to verify whether Gabriel's truly invented the world's first submarine sandwich, as the shop's sandwich makers claim. But one thing's for sure -- this tiny, family-run joint in College Park has been packing in the hungry masses since 1958, and loyalists swear Gabriel's has the best subs in town. The backdrop -- wood-paneled walls, a hanging photo of the owner with legendary Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden, and a handful of booths packed with patrons -- is nothing fancy. It's the sandwiches that star. Baguette-style rolls are light and soft, and come loaded with the usual meats and toppings. And be sure to ask for the oil dressing -- the staff claims it's what brings out the inimitable flavor of a Gabriel's sub. The place gets packed at noon, when office workers and construction crews descend for to-go orders (the enormous hot and cold subs are one of the most affordable fill-ups in trendy College Park). Separate lines for takeout and dine-in business keep things moving. A second rush happens predictably on weekdays around 2PM, when nearby Edgewater High School lets out and famished teens swarm in for after-school snacking.

A rip off!

I have given this shop many tries and I am disappointed more and more every time I go back. The last time i visited, the owner was very rude when i complained about the lack of meats that are put on their subs. The deli meats are so thinly sliced that you can see through them. Who wants to taste just bread? The bad attitude of the owner and staff will definately keep me from ever going back. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Try the Gabriel's Sub Shop on Curry Ford Road. They are in no relation and they serve up a great tasting sub. You will get your money's worth!

Kevin. I went to high school with you. my email is hicksr@hutchcc.edu. I'm way out here in central Kansas teaching history at a small college. Get in touch. I loved you subs while I was there two years ago. We were in Mr. McEwen's science class, remember? We used to go out in the back of the portable classroom and toss the football. Hicks

I have eaten Gabriels for YEARS!! I miss the Pine Hills location, not, "Jerry the Sub Natzi". I used to walk in, and they knew my exact order. The one in College Park is GREAT too!! I love the smell of the place. Wonderful employees, and the best subs ANYWHERE!! I have been to others, and no where in Orlando stands up to a Gabriels. I just wish one would move closer to Ocoee, College Park is not that far, but I can't get there as often as my family would like. OPEN MORE STORES, just one more!!! THINK ABOUT OCOEE or WINTER GARDEN!!!! You would be super busy!!!
