Rate and Write a Review Like a snowbird drawn to the sun, this Canadian chain has made inroads into the Florida market. And if the late-night lines are any indication, The Pita Pit isn't heading back to Ontario anytime soon. The downtown location bustles on weekend nights with bar-hoppers who pour in after last call to buffer their bellies with hearty pita sandwiches (a healthier alternative to the late-night pizza joints nearby). Loaded with romaine lettuce, fresh parmesan, bacon and chicken, the Chicken Caesar is a popular pick. And several Middle Eastern options include pitas filled with Baba Ganoush (eggplant puree), hummus or falafel. Lunchtime is also popular here, with downtown office workers descending to pick up takeout or down a quick salad or sandwich. The gyros, with your choice of beef or lamb, are good, and you can't beat the Pita Pit's version of a Greek salad -- a brimming bowl of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, peppers, black olives, cucumber and feta cheese for just $5.50. Despite the warm red and green color theme inside, the open-duct ceiling lends a decidedly industrial atmosphere, but at prices like these nobody's complaining.
