The lushly decorated Clay Oven dining room -- awash in red, black and green, and accented by Indian tapestries paintings and instruments -- sets the scene for the spicy food on the menu. Diners eat under light from a huge chandelier. Favorites on the menu include several types of curry cuisine: chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, chicken vindaloo and lamb pasanda, as well as leavened bread baked in the restaurant's clay oven. In addition to a selection of domestic wines and beer, the restaurant also carries two beers from India, Sunny Beaches and Kingfisher. Although Americans comprise 95 percent of the restaurant's weekday customers, the chef uses authentic hot Indian spices liberally, while still conceding to individual tastes. The restaurant is busiest Friday and Saturday nights, and many in the area's large Indian population visit for weekend brunch. -- Sylvia Oliande
