Bosphorus Turkish Cuisine   

Sure, you'll find the classic Turk dish 'doner kebab' (thinly sliced lamb served with rice) on the menu at Bosphorus. But this 2005 newcomer to Park Avenue gets high marks for taking the cuisine of the near east to new levels. A sultry ambience characterized by low lighting, lush oriental rugs and saffron-hued walls sets the scene for a romantic meal. Consider ordering your appetizers tapas-style to share with your table. Choose from classic starters such as falafel and eggplant dip, or expand your culinary horizons with an order of the Midye Dolma -- tender mussels stuffed with rice, onions, pine nuts and black currants. The Turkish pizzas are an interesting twist on the Italian version, and the thin crust dough is ladled with exotic toppings such as Turkish kasari cheese, feta and lamb. Seafood lovers should consider the specialty called Killic Sis, generous skewers of swordfish marinated with fresh bay leaves. Much of the fish on offer is served whole (head and all), so be sure to let your waiter know if that doesn't appeal to you. Desserts are a rich affair, with baklava, almond pudding and sweet pistachio rolls just a few of the options. Sadly, the hubble-bubble water pipes on display are for decoration only as the restaurant is smoke-free.
