The resurgence in popularity of the 'Green Fairy,' otherwise known as absinthe -- the anise-flavored spirit that purportedly induced deleterious effects in users -- gave cause to chef/owner Mark Dollard to open a bar/bistro appropriating a theme of the alcoholic elixir. The result is a beautifully appointed, brick-walled, two-level restaurant with a dimly lit underground cellar room reminiscent of a Parisian grotto where patrons indulged in absinthe and other such vices. Granted, real absinthe isn't served here (it's been banned in the U.S. since 1912), but you will find downtown hipsters and decked-out business types enjoying a host of specialty cocktails using a faux absinthe called 'Absente.' But Dollard's focus here is on fine French cuisine, and affordable fine French cuisine at that as no entree is priced above $18. The warm brie with berry compote is an absolute must-have starter and comes served with a freshly baked baguette. Then indulge yourself in one of the tartines (open-faced sandwiches), croques (grilled pressed sandwiches) or arugula salad with roquefort cheese, candied pecans and a tangy-sweet raspberry vinaigrette for a light meal. A chardonnay bechamel highlights the penne with sauteed shrimp, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes and asparagus, while the beef bourguignon proved to be a hearty bistro classic. Nightly wine pairing dinners take place in the cellar, though diners are free to choose from the bistro menu as well. A separate bar area is ideal for a pre-dinner cocktail, and if a train happens to roll by, green fairy shots can be had for $3. The restaurant, located in what used to be the Bumby Arcade, is part of Church Street's revitalization project.

Great atmosphere in revitilized Church Street Station. Brick & Fire has truly captured the vintage feeling of the Station. The service was remarkable, and of course, the pizza was amazing. If you're looking for true Orlando character, you will find it at Brick & Fire. Great place to celebrate any occassion, enjoy a family meal, or take a date. You won't be disappointed.
