With mainstays like tasty but unimaginative spinach and artichoke dip and fried chicken tenders, the standard menu at this popular Winter Park restaurant isn't anything out of the ordinary. Still, the Atlanta-based chain packs the tables nightly with a sociable crowd of thirty-somethings who seem to enjoy the bar-like atmosphere as much as the reliable and hearty bistro fare. You can relish waterfront views across Lake Killarney from most tables while you dine. The Fork and Knife Ribs are touted as so tender that you don't even have to use your fingers to eat them. While not listed on the menu, they're also available in a an appetizer portion. Vegetarians will appreciate a variety of pastas and salads on the menu, and popular desserts include Key Lime pie and apple walnut cobbler. The atmosphere is decidedly more Northeastern than Floridian, with lots of dark wood, and exposed-beam ceilings that add a lodge-like appeal to the place.

Excellent Food, Horrible Service!
By BALELO on 08/01/2008
I been a customer of Houston's for many years. I love their fork and knife ribs and the food is always great, except one time. However, the service is not that great. I been to more than 10 Houston's in different states. Service has never been that great. To top if off, I went tho Houston's in Santa Monica last week with my family and got kicked out because I was wearing a sleeveless shirt. As I was exiting, a girl almost naked (I couldn't help but stare at it) with mini skirt and a provocative top gets seated with no problems. I called to complaint and someone in their corporate offices told me that the policy was only for men. They're lucky that I am not a sue happy person. DISCRIMINATION to say the least. If I was to rate it in their food, I would say Very Good or Excellent but because I am voting in their service, I am voting poor.

By Jwallacewilson on 07/25/2008
Its been a few years since i've lived in Orlando. We would go to Houstons with friends, and have a ripping good time. Their virgin drinks-Out of this World, the food- never the same thing-wonderful, we would have to let our meals settle for dessert, sometimes an hour and our servers were GREAT, Then bring on the applewalnut,YUM.... Some people had the idea that you had to be well off to be accepted there, we are just everyday people and a Great time was had by ALL

I've been there a few times and every single time the food SUCKS! Not sure why people go there, but it seems to me it's a middle-aged to older pick up bar. I live in WInter Park and for this place to be #1???? This must be a mistake......

Jim Crow

My girlfriend took me to Houston's for my 27th birthday. We were seated promptly and service was more prompt than not. I decided to order a beer, as is customary, and the waiter asked for my ID--this was to be expected--which I did provide. However, what he then proceeded to do vexed more than it humiliated me. He took my ID and said that he had to run a check on it to ensure that it was not stolen. Stolen? I called the day after to ascertain the restaurant's policy on carding it's patrons who choose to purchase alchoholic beverages. I was informed that, based on the waiter's intuition as well as on something they referred to as random checking, a patron's ID could indeed be subject to some form of authentication. I have heard of random searches in airports in this country that have subjected people draped in Arab clothing to the same 'random check', however less intrusive on my account, that I had to endure. I was a black man, the only black man, in the entire restaurant. My attire was appropriate--more than chic--yet, and I refuse to believe otherwise, I had to suffer the prejudice of a racist waiter and, or, establishment. I know that I was singled out for no valid reason whatsoever, and I can accept that most of you will fail to see the merit, or have any qualms with what I have recounted, nonetheless, I will relay my dissappointment over a situation that almost ruined what should have been a very special day for me. To those who do not mind good food (not too bad) and nice ambiance by all means please do visit, but for those of you swarthy gents and ladies who cannot help but suffer the prejudice of feeble minded people, do not...do not waste your money or time at Houston's. We spen $130 yesterday, and I loathe the experience which I calmly swallowed.
