The Coyote Inn lives up to its reputation as a private getaway spot. It's hidden behind walled and gated grounds, offering complete seclusion for those who don't want to be found for a few days. While you're holed up, there's an 88-degree pool to swim in, a garden-hidden spa to relax in and guest rooms that feature old-world beds and raised bedside fireplaces. If you do choose to venture out into the heart of downtown Palm Springs, there are some good dining choices awaiting you: French cuisine at Le Vallauris, steaks at L.G.'s and Mexican at Las Casuelas are all within a quarter of a mile of the inn. -- Denise Fondo
