You gotta love Chickie's & Pete's -- or hate it. It's hard to say. The original location in the Mayfair section of Northeast Philly is a city favorite that packs in the patrons. On weekends you can barely breathe. The crowd is a jovial mix of near and far 'locals' who clamor for C&P's trademarked crab fries, covered in zesty seasonings, and hot style shrimp. There's lots of seafood on the menu, including the best-selling blue-claw and Dungeness crabs. Everything comes drenched in seasoned juices, so be prepared to get dirty sopping up the remnants of your meal with bread. Maybe that's why C&P's installed a sink in the middle of the dining room. So what's not to love? At this original location, nothing. But talk about its other outposts on the strip-mall-happy stretch of Roosevelt Boulevard or on South Philly's Packer Avenue and tongues start flapping. Each new incarnation, it seems, gets a tad less personal and a bit more generic. There's more emphasis on getting customers in and out quickly than on nurturing the camaraderie that's so pleasantly obvious at the original.

What's all the fuss
By Kitty480 on 05/20/2008
So they have good fries, but that it...I don't understand what all the fuss is about. The waitress was extreamly rude, and they squeezed our party of 12 into a table for 8. When we asked if we could wait a little longer to add another table, they tolds us no and if we didn't want the table they set for us we should go somewhere else. Luckily I was not the one making the choice because I would have left. I thought the food was pretty bad, except the cheese fries. I wouldn't go back just for fries though.

Mayfair is the BEST!
By u2fanjen on 01/26/2008
I have to admit, the the original Chickie & Pete's is the best! I was at the South Philly one, when it first opened up & I have been to the Northeast Philly location for a few times. The workers at both these locations are so snobby and they do tend to rush you out. In fact, I was @ the Boulevard one with a group of people, and I remember that once we were done eating, they asked if could pay the bill and either go to one of the bars, as they needed to have the table for other people, which in turn was friends of the worker. The Mayfair location is the best. The atmosphere is so down to earth. I have been coming to that location for about 7-8yrs now. The only downside, is that you can't find parking, it's a shame that we can no longer use the auto store's parking lot or even the bank that are both directly across the street. I think Pete needs to focus on where he grew up and maybe help the original location find some good parking areas & the other locations need to follow what the original has and thats a PERSONALITY that is friendly & courteous.
