You gotta love Chickie's & Pete's -- or hate it. It's hard to say. The original location in the Mayfair section of Northeast Philly is a city favorite that packs in the patrons. On weekends you can barely breathe. The crowd is a jovial mix of near and far 'locals' who clamor for C&P's trademarked crab fries, covered in zesty seasonings, and hot style shrimp. There's lots of seafood on the menu, including the best-selling blue-claw and Dungeness crabs. Everything comes drenched in seasoned juices, so be prepared to get dirty sopping up the remnants of your meal with bread. Maybe that's why C&P's installed a sink in the middle of the dining room. So what's not to love? At this original location, nothing. But talk about its other outposts on the strip-mall-happy stretch of Roosevelt Boulevard or on South Philly's Packer Avenue and tongues start flapping. Each new incarnation, it seems, gets a tad less personal and a bit more generic. There's more emphasis on getting customers in and out quickly than on nurturing the camaraderie that's so pleasantly obvious at the original.

Over Hyped and Expensive
By tannunzio on 01/26/2007
If you want to be overcharged for average bar food and everyday beer, Chickie's and Pete's is the place to go. Loud and crowded with impossible to converse music volumn, it is the place for all the upwardly mobile people, with no real thought process, to gather. Hope they enjoy themselves.

A lot of memories at C&P's
By girlypa913 on 12/30/2006
I spent most of my youth at Chickie and Pete's on Robbins Avenue. My friends and I would go and just have a ball. My husband and I even had our first date at Chickie and Pete's. The food has always been the best. The mussels in red sauce are out of this world and every Christmas Eve my husband and I get quite a few orders of them to take to my families 7 fishes feast, (my family is Italian) and everyone loves them. I prefer the food at the original on Robbins ave, but the Northeast restaurant is great too, especially in the summer when you can sit outside. Crab fries are great too!!!!
