Boathouse Row at night was ready-made to be a classic Philadelphia postcard -- a row of buildings along the east bank of the Schuylkill River, each outlined by a string of white lights. Boathouse Row is part of a majestic visual tableau that starts with the grand neo-classicism of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, overlooking the Schuylkill with its paths for walkers and bikers that follow the river for miles as it runs through Fairmount Park, the largest landscaped park in the United States. Just below the museum is an azalea garden, hundreds of statues and the spruced-up Philadelphia Waterworks, originally constructed in 1819. During the fall, breathtaking gold-and-crimson foliage acts as a backdrop to the boathouses, completing the picture-perfect scenery. Every year in May the boathouses host the largest collegiate regatta in the United States, the Dad Vail, which is held on the Schuylkill River. -- Amy Salit

Born and raised in Philly. Now we live in Florida. Boat House row is one of the most beautiful places in Philly. A must see on a cool fall day or, any day. The view from the top of the Art Museaum steps is wonderful.
