Tucked away on tiny Chancellor Street, this lesbian-centric restaurant/bar/club is hardly on the tip of the city's tongue -- and the familial, open-minded clientele wouldn't have it any other way. Host to some great dance nights and colorful special events, Sisters aims to encourage female empowerment and foster a real community for all women, gay or straight. That being said, there's as much fun as politics here: Sisters is a bar run by women for women, where you can meet women and feel safe, comfortable and at home. On Thursday through Sunday, DJs spin everything from country to techno in the mirror-heavy second-floor dance room. The rest of the week, you can find games, trivia contests and karaoke, which draw a number of gay men to the bar, as well as one of the best and friendliest Sunday brunch deals in the city. One final indication that this bar is by women, for women and about women? The bathrooms are probably the cleanest and nicest in the entire city of Philadelphia. -- Nathaniel Friedman

Waiting for another women for women club to open
By Bdw7367 on 08/26/2008
Sisters you have to get it together....It does seem that it is geared toward white women and to keep blacks away. Staff is not very friendly and its very clickish. My friends and I have stopped going to Sisters, and its a shame because it has potential.

Sorry Sister's

I 'm of the older set. but when i came out, Sisters was the first place i went to. The only things i liked about the place was that it was close to my night job, so i could go there to play a little pool before work, the Sunday brunch is ok, as long as you don't go back for seconds.....and i must agree, they are not very welcoming to blacks or anything other than white folks! they will look past you at the bar to serve a white person and act as though you were not there. The music......*sigh*. Would not take any out of town friends to that place...i have standards!

Really?
By Eastiles on 06/13/2008
I have never had a good experience at this place and I've given it several chances.... I have to agree with EVERYONE else about the staff. They are rude and ignorant. The decor and layout is an utter disgrace, and without wanting to be repetitive, the music choices are straight out of an 80's "B" movie. Clearly this is a situation where the proprietors of this establishment are either completely out of touch with the times or forever enmeshed in a lesbian sub-culture that "didn't get the memo!" Sorry to be so harsh, but it is difficult enough to meet women and this place makes it even more difficult. Hopefully, someone with some class, style and pinash will enter the scene so that this place can be eradicated from Philadelphia tour books....
