Anthony's Italian Coffee House may be young by Italian Market standards -- the little cafe just south of Christian Street opened its doors in 1995 -- but it has a proud heritage. Owner Anthony Anastasio's family first set up shop in the Market over 100 years ago -- the site of his coffeeshop was originally the family's produce shop. The cafe offers a variety of gourmet coffee roasts not readily available elsewhere in town, including Hawaiian Kona, Jamaican Blue Mountain and the strong house blend, Italian Market Reserve, in addition to flavored coffees and a number of non-caffeinated drinks like hot chocolate, tea and Italian sodas. You can relax inside and take in Anthony's old-world charm, or sit outside on the patio overlooking Ninth Street in warm weather, eating Anthony's paninis -- try the Anthony, a combination of grilled chicken, sauteed spinach, Portobello mushrooms and provolone bread. Or come for dessert, which includes traditional Italian desserts like gelato, tiramisu, profiteroles, spumoni and tartufo.

Hidden treasure
By TGHALKO on 05/30/2008
Our son and his wife lived in the Italian market area for several years. When visiting we always walked a few blocks to this hidden treasure. Anthony's is like a step back in time with some of the very best coffee's I've ever had, and coffee is my weakness. Small, quaint and very friendly. They also have a some great Italian pastries, including the very best Sfogliatella (sweet ricotta filled seashell shaped pastry) I've ever had. Better even than the great ISGRO's Bakery a few blocks away, but that's another story! When in Philly, Anthony's is a must.

Philly's best cafe
By bambambam789 on 04/25/2005
This is by far the very best cafe I have ever been to in Philadelphia. Lunch is cheap and completely authentic. They have the best gelato for a warm summer day. The coffee is better than LaColombe and the cafe oozes "Italian family". I like watching Momma behind the counter and really enjoy when the owner's cute brother brings his son in for a visit. This place is like Disneyworld for those who love Italy. A must-visit!

simply the best

A wonderful establishment to see on the market. The staff is always friendly and they make a great cup of coffee. The holidays are the best there, all of the baskets and specialty items are a treat to see and the best is he doesn't inflate the price like other places who will go nameless.... DOnt forget to go to their gift store a few doors down, you'll be impressed there also. Hands down the best coffee and the best espresso..I look forward to a Sunday morning with a cup of Anthony's and a piece of Stocks pound cake :)

I can't say enough about anthony's...Wonderful staff, the owner and his mother are charming...I belive her name was Anne, she always has a smile....The coffee is excellent, closest thign to Italy. The panini are great, ESPECIALLY on Saturday...The Salads are fresh and appetizinf and the ambiance reminds you of the "Good old Days"...A gentlemen named Frank help me with directions and offered me a cup of coffee. He was curteous and had the cutest dimples...He even called me a cab...Thank you ANthony's...You are exactly what we needed...Class, tradition and a committment to excellence...
