Just off Main Street and near the canal in busy Manayunk is Bourbon Blue, a two-story bar/restaurant that opened November 2002 in the space that used to house the Smith & Hawken retail store. Dining space is provided upstairs and downstairs -- it's a bit less casual upstairs -- and the big, beautiful bars on both floors are fully stocked. Live rock 'n' roll, blues, funk or whatever are featured on weekends to fire up the young to middle-aged crowd. Executive chef Gabriel Hawk's New Orleans-style menu includes an awesome porterhouse, jambalaya, roasted chicken, all sorts of fish dishes -- spicy or mild -- and even an alligator quesadilla, which some say tastes a lot like a chicken quesadilla. For Cajun-style meals and a laid-back ambience, Bourbon Blue is the spot. Reservations are recommended on weekends. On-street parking can be found, and it's free after 8PM. -- David McKenna

best place i manayunk by far
By jute18 on 10/11/2005
i have been going to bourbon blue for the last 3 years, basically since they opened. i am not the type of person to take the time to fill out a review like this, but i think it is more than necessary for me to put my two cents in. first of all the place is beautiful, i have taken most of my friends, dates and visiting business meetings and everyone comments on the beautiful old mill building. next, the food is fantastic and more consistant than i am used to from even the top restaurants in philly. they have "the best bar tenders in philly"!!!!!! as well. the rest of the staff is just as efficient and friendly. these young guys who run and or own the place are as classy and friendly as you could imagine. this review is too long already, but just to add, i witnessed an experience with David the general manager that blew me away. he was presented with a rather difficult guest (a bit too much wine i think) that he handled with poise and class, the customer left extremely happy......Magic!!!! the reason i am so longwinded is because i have been in the restaurant business for over 10 years and have never experienced such a well oiled machine. on the down side, i did have one beer that wasn't as cold as i would have liked it to be about two years ago while i was there. shame on them!!!!!!!!! i think everyone should give these guys a shot, obviously!!!!!

By kkehan on 05/16/2004
I HAVE NEVER BEEN THERE AND NEVER HAD A RESERVATION BUT THE RESTARUANT KEEPS CALLING ME SAYING MY RESERVATIONS ARE CONFIRMED. I CALLED AND SAID THEY HAVE THE WRONG PERSON BUT THE MESSAGES KEEP COMING ON MY ANSWERING MACHINE.

I WANTED TO TRY THIS RESTAURANT BUT NOW I AM WONDERING ARE THEY REALLY ORGANIZED ENOUGH TO SERVE A DECENT MEAL??
