The name is quite a mouthful, but if you look at its root -- kabob -- and go from there, you'll have it down in no time. Kabobeesh is a much loved Pakistani eatery that feeds the hungry economically-challenged hoards in University City. Price are wildly low, and the food is nothing if not authentic. From stone-oven baked naan (bread) to samosas to tandoori chicken to delicately seasoned lamb chops and haleem (wheat pudding with meat), the menu offers a wide variety of selections for those with a taste for "eastern" cuisine. Everything here is halal (permitted) as well, so those who follow the culinary guidelines of the Muslim faith can eat without worry. Kabobeesh is a small, family-run eatery that is friendly and reverent at the same time. The decor boasts Islamic touches, adding to the rich cultural feel of the place. It's BYOB and is usually most crowded from its noontime opening until early evening -- though you can get yours to go if crowds are not your thing.

good food!

My Husband and I visited Kabobeesh a few months ago, the food was pretty good and decent prices, we loved the lamb and chicken kaboobs.... the place could use sprucing up a bit. On our second visit we found the food to be to spicy to enjoy, I was on my third snapple by the time I was done eating, and the lamb kabobs was a bit rare. We would still visit again when we're in Philly.
