Stephen Starr?s Buddakan is a spectacular restaurant featuring exotic flavors of modern Asian cuisine with creativity and drama. Bon Appetit notes, "The mostly white space is striking, with a lit-from-within communal table in the middle of the room, a waterfall & a ten-foot, candle-bedecked Buddha. The religious icon watches over hip customers indulging in pan-Asian cuisine that far surpasses the fare usually found at hot spots like this." Newsweek reports, "Design also serves as a signifier for cuisine. You walk into Buddakan, one of the hottest new restaurants in Philadelphia, past a shimmering waterfall & Japanese river stones & you say to yourself, 'ginger-miso everything' even before you see the magnificent 10-foot Buddha dominating the dining room." Named one of ?America's Top 50 Restaurants" by Travel & Leisure and 'Top Restaurant for Fun' by Gourmet, Buddakan has become one of the country's most talked about restaurants.

Excellent

I had the opportunity to dine at the Buddakan two weeks ago for the first time. It was the best restaurant I have been to so far in Philadelphia. The meal was great from the appetizers to the dessert. We had perfect seating arrangements for two of us directly in front of the Buddakan. I would recommend their for the person who posted that their service wasnt good. The waitress started off a little on the snippy side but she eventually loosened up. What I liked, as soon as your dish is empty they removed it. We of course having a small table and ordering more food then our stomachs can hold, that type of service worked out well for us. I have to admit it takes alot for me to walk out of a restaurant 100% satisfied but I was that evening. I even left with left-overs. No, it isn't a cheap restaurant but I was aware of that when I walked in the door. After-all who would mind paying the price if they walked out that satisfied. I look forward to a return visit. I've recently started to dine more in the Philadelphia area so I look forward to the comparison of the Buddakan to places like La Familia, The Prime Rib etc. Im talking about over-all service, food etc. but I also look forward to returning to the Buddakan because I saw alot of fabulous dishes walk by me as I was eating my dinner.

I go to Buddakan for the delicious food and the atmosphere. It's always a busy place. I've had mixed drinks there that seemed to be short on the alcohol, but other than that I highly recommend.

Buddakan is definately a great restaurant, the ambience is great, the food is awesome, the wait staff is always very attentive, and knowledgable of the menu. Try the wasabi crusted steak, the lobster fried rice, the spring rolls, dumblings and any desert. You can't miss.

Pretty Good

THe food was pretty goo. The Chicken Dumpling appetizer was awesome. The Banana Tower dessert was also incredible. Other than that, the food was o.k. The portions were o.k., but not that much food for the price. The atmosphere is excellent, although a little dark.
