In a city where it seems like a new BYOB restaurant opens each week, it's refreshing to know that the BYOB pioneers are still going strong. Take Chloe, the 40-seat BYOB in the heart of Old City (but thankfully far removed from Market Street mayhem) that continuously produces high-quality contemporary American fare in an intimate, unpretentious setting. The dimly lit dining room is often filled with couples out for a romantic evening. However, it's also a good choice for groups, since the menu seems to offer something to suit every palate. The signature salad, with mouth-watering warm goat cheese, is a favorite to start with. For entrees, you can always expect a seasonally adjusted menu of dishes made with local organic produce and meat, such as the pork chops with bacon and caramelized onion. Also try the homemade pizza, which comes topped with fig jam, gorgonzola cheese and pancetta. Desserts are something to look forward to here: Though they change daily, you can always expect a gooey chocolate concoction that'll satisfy even the most picky chocolate lover. If you forget a bottle (or two) of wine, the nearest liquor store is on 2nd Street between Market and Chestnut.

Wonderful date night
By isuhrulmd on 03/04/2007
A BYOB we would highly recommend!! Small, simple, unpretentious, great service and wonderful food!! The wait was long when we got there, but we put down our name and was given the suggestion to go down the street to Charlie's for a drink while we waited. Which we thought was an excellent idea! We returned 45 minutes later and were seated promptly. The food was wonderful and our waitress was incredibly friendly, funny and knowledgable. Food arrived very quickly, yet we never felt rushed throughout the dinner. We stayed to finish our wine and had coffee afterwards. The small room did get a little loud, but not enough to bother us or feel like we couldn't carry on a conversation. And we had plenty of privacy even though tables were fairly close to each other. A wonderful romantic meal well worth the money!! Expect a wait if you arrive after 6.30.

excellent

The food was excellent and I had no problems with the service. People have complained about certain policies; but I spoke with the owner/chef (how often do you get to do that??) The seating is limited so they don't hold tables--if you have ever waited for a table because someone is allegedly "just parking the car" and watched as the table sat for what seemed liked an hour, this doesn't seem like such a bad policy. If you don't like the service, go elsewhere. I had no problems from anyone that worked there. I strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone going to Philadelphia.

not sure about this place
By jptopley on 03/31/2006
I did think the food was good. But, was very disapointed with the owner/management style. we went with a small group of 6 people to celebrate a birthday. When we arrived the owners told us we would have to seperate into 3 groups of two, rather then share a table for six. There was nobody else in the restaurant at the time except for us. 3 tables for two could have very easily been pushed together near the back of the restaurant. but no, the owners insisted it was against their policy. they wanted to promote a more romantic atmosphere of tables for two. i just thought it was in bad taste for the owner to ruin are birthday party over a STUPID policy. Anybody want to comment? my email is jptopley@aol.com Thanks for listening.
