Mama's Vegetarian   

If you're missing your Mama's home cooking, consider a trip to her eponymous spot on 20th Street for a fix. Okay, maybe your Mama isn't a kosher vegetarian falafel maker, but you might want to swap her in for one after tasting some of the Middle Eastern treats at this tiny spot. It's pretty short on atmosphere -- a few scattered tables and a drink refrigerator make up the bulk of the decor. The focus is on the open kitchen and glass counter where fast-moving workers assemble each sandwich to order, to the tune of an energizing techno beat. It's good thing they do move fast as the line of hungry hummus-cravers on lunch break can get pretty long. It's worth the wait though -- in addition to the tasty falafel, house-baked pita, crisp latkes, hummus and crispy phyllo ''cigars'' are all so savory and satisfying you probably won't miss having any meat. Don't forget the fixins bar, overflowing with enough pickled vegetables and flavorful sauces to personalize your pita sandwich, which could be a meal in itself.
