This Rittenhouse dessert haven takes very seriously the business of sweet-toothing. Miel is bright and airy, with a gloriously high ceiling and simple glass cases that abound with pastry-driven goodness. There you will find items ranging from full-blown chocolates including rum raison and Grand Marnier to mousse and cream confections like the aptly-named ''Temptation,'' consisting of chocolate mousse over a chocolate biscuit with vanilla syrup. The ''Gateau Bebe'' is a devil's food cake concoction with carmelized banana and, yes, more chocolate mousse. Miel also offers full cakes, everything from black forest to pumpkin cheesecake; fruit tarts; breakfast croissants and muffins, and a range of seasonal jams for spreading such as peach, apple butter or autumn harvest. They will also gladly fulfill your French bread jones with a wealth of baguettes, batards, boules and rolls. Pack light, you definitely won't be leaving empty-handed.

Absolutely, the best thing to have happend to Rittenhouse Square since Rouge! Whoever doesn't love the pastries here, is out of sorts.

not a place to go

I wasn't at all impressed with the pastries and cakes. Definitely the chocolates and ice creams are to die for, and are a sweet addition to local bakeries but the actually presentation and taste from some of the cakes and pastries left me a bit bland. From some one so well known to be an outstanding pastry chef,I was disappointed. I don't think I will be visiting that often unless it is a very special occasion when I can get something just as nice and great tasting and less expensive from my local hometown bakery.

Great Place!

My dad and I meet here 3 to 4 times a week for coffee. Miel has some of the smoothest coffee I've had in the city. We could go anywhere but the people are so nice and the atmosphere is great. Meil has tables outside with nice umbrellas. Their baked goods I would have to give 10 stars. We love Miel.
