Go at 3AM, and while darkness surrounds the rest of South Philly, here lights burn brightly and people and cars jam the streets. With outdoor seating only and boardwalk-like lighting, the scene is reminiscent of the shore except that instead of seagulls everywhere, there are pigeons. Pat's Steaks are of the sliced but not chopped variety and should be eaten quickly while still piping hot, and perhaps after a few beers to be fully appreciated. The quality may not match Dalessandro's or Chink's, but the setting -- warring cheesesteak giants facing each other -- is so uniquely Philadelphian, it's worth numerous visits.
