Thin-crust pies are the true art form of the pizza genre. It's all too easy to make a thick, gloppy pie, loaded up with all sorts of nonsense, add an inch of cheese and declare it world-class. With thin-crust pie, however, you have to get the balance just right or it's a total failure. This legendary joint gets it just right. The crust is thin and crisp, with a slight edge of burn along the outer rim. The sauce is substantive and fragrant without being distracting -- and best of all, it's not sweet, a deal-breaker if ever there were one. The cheese, meanwhile, is scattered loosely over the top, not quite covering the entire surface area. The combination is surprisingly light and satisfying. As far as ambiance goes, how can you go wrong? From the self-affirming sign in the front window ("This is Tacconelli's") to a CD jukebox with Louis Prima, Patsy Kline and, naturally, Sinatra to the restrooms, labeled "Guys" and "Dolls," the place oozes charm. The menu is simple and direct as well: three kinds of pies -- tomato (no cheese), regular (some cheese) and white (no sauce, plenty of cheese and garlic) -- and the usual toppings. That's it. You want pasta, go to a spaghetti house. Sure, you have to call ahead to reserve your dough for the next day's orders, and, yes, their hours are somewhat peculiar, but we assure you, it's absolutely worth playing by their rules.

If waiting and ordering ahead (but it REALLY is worth it) is not your style - they have a second location near the Moorestown Mall in NJ. I love the white pie with plum tomatoes and spinach. Some sausage on it is great, too.

Are you kidding me I have been to Chicago, La, New York, And many other cities in this country. And not one pie in those cities compares to Taccos. I have had some real good pies in those cities. But Taccos pies are one in a million. Keep up the great work John n Rose. If you ever decide to hang it up and close the doors. Let me know a week in advance so I can buy 1000 pies and freeze them. Love you guys. Dickie Wilde from Memphis and Auburn

Remember as long ago as they were a neighborhood shop with sandwiches and those famous tacconelli's specials. The Pizza is good but overhyped. Calling ahead to reserve your dough? Absurd! Plus the wait even calling ahead is too long. Pizza is only good (not great), Overhyped and the story has lost it's novelity. Can name 10 others better without thinking

All I can say is one slice and you're hooked! I've been eating this pizza since I was a little girl and now with my nephews (who are 4 and 2), who won't eat any other pizza on a Friday night, has become a tradition!
