Don't be fooled by the modest "A" in front of Amsterdam -- it's no wonder that this upscale nightspot has been voted "Best Gay Bar" in Phoenix numerous times over the past few years. With classy, medieval-inspired decor and plush leather couches, Amsterdam oozes charm and elegant grace. Roman columns and stone gargoyles flank the entrance, where a baby grand sits amid a sea of relaxed patrons. A local pianist tickles the ivories in the evenings, providing elegant music appropriate to such a grand setting. On the catwalk above, a velvet leopard-print chaise lies in wait, while handsome bartenders mix drinks for successful businessmen, the occasional female friend, and relaxed couples. The opera house bar, imported from New Mexico, is famous for its mind-boggling selection of custom martinis including chocolate chip and passionflower. While the surreal setting seems to have fallen out of the pages of an Anne Rice novel, the friendly staff and down-to-earth clientele don't bite -- unless you ask nicely.

Great Place to get you Car Ripped Off
By Martymardbn on 01/22/2009
A possible great evening turns into shit! Our car was broken into on a Wed. evening between 7:30 and 9:00 pm. It was parked in there parking lot right next to the building. When I asked if they had security the bar tender said yes they do. If they had security and a car was parked in there lot, the second parking spot in the lot, then why did security not see that someone was braking into the car, the alarm went off..... When reported to the bar tender, his no complacement coment was....call the police. Not only does the staff give two ***** about anyone, when I called, the mail box is full...of what?? other customers exspressing there concerns of security!! Who know and who cares! There is no way that I'll go back!! If you value your property, and want a bar tender or business to provide securtiy in a non attitude manor, may i suggest going to Chicago! You won't find it here in Phoenix.

Amsterdam; If you can afford it.. it’s worth every Penny!
By MGMPHX on 09/11/2008
Amsterdam was a top notch bar, and at least somebody [yes-Todd is God for creating said gay heaven on earth, and better is yet to come] who had the vision to invest some of the money back into a gay bar and create something high end and unique. For all you that gripe about Amsterdam and the clicks… I for one think there is nothing more enjoyable than having a fine Martini on the weekends with my “click” while sitting back in luxurious comfort, watching some poor tragic queen come in ordering a high dollar exotic drink only to have a look on their face suddenly develop not seen since their doll house caught fire when the bar tender tells them the price of the tab! You get what you pay for… It’s an event of gay humanity that can truly only be enjoyed at luxurious comfort of Amsterdam. If you can’t stand the heat- get out of the kitchen; and if you can’t affords it, get up to Roscoe’s or any one of the other gay bars in the Phoenix area - and enjoy the drunken cows with wigs that consumed a pitcher of beer for $1 and don’t mind the roaches crawling across your feet while some guy without a full set of teeth grabs your behind. You won’t find any of that at Amsterdam and the price of the drinks pretty much guarantees that!
