The Dish: Founded in the late 1970s as a beach community pizza chain, BJ's Brewery expanded in 1996 under the "what goes better with pizza than beer?" premise. The popular restaurant now includes a fully functional microbrewery that ferments seven different beer styles in strict accordance with the "German Beer Purity Law." Not to be lost in all the beer suds are the signature Chicago style pizzas, broad deep-dish pies brought sizzling to the table in their baking dish. Not in the mood for pizza? Comfort food abounds on the large menu, including more than a dozen pasta dishes, sandwiches, stuffed potatoes, beef and chicken entrees and some truly divine desserts. The Atmosphere: Despite the brewery tag, all ages are welcome at BJ's. The family restaurant atmosphere is most appropriate for lunch or casual dinner dining. Kids aren't allowed in the bar area which is usually chock-a-block with sports fans catching a game on TV. The interior design varies little from location to location, but is a notch above most chain restaurants for decor.
