Catering to cowboys of all persuasions, Charlie's is the only gay bar in town that embraces the spirit of the Southwest. The clientele is dominated by male professionals dressed in jeans, T-shirts and the occasional Stetson. Southern studs and rowdy ranchers delight in the private, casual atmosphere offered in this hidden jewel. Local DJs spin country music's finest, from class act Reba McIntyre to modern diva Faith Hill. Weekly classes teach urban cowpokes to boot scoot, line dance and swing with the best of them. The hip nightspot is tightly packed on the weekends, with a large dance floor occupying the small space. Once a year when the annual gay rodeo rolls into town, Charlie's becomes a fevered frenzy of hunky male riders relaxing after a tough day on the job. With no cover charge and drink specials under $3, this alternative hangout offers Texas-style two-step at a pleasing price.

Hardly A Saloon ...
By RumorHound on 07/14/2008
Don't be fooled. This place is NOT a "lil bitty ol' pissant country place" filled with cowboys and good ol' gay boys. It's in the middle Phoenix. It's a big city. The last time most of these men saw a pony was at the county fair when they were three years old. Still busy and always popular, if you remember the "old Charlie's" you'll notice a real change from years ago. The music has a definite "Tejano" feel to it now and the crowd is young and very Latino & not always so friendly. But the bartenders are nearly always nice and work their butts off for their customers.

In the Old Days

Now, mind you, it's been YEARS... Charlie'swas the place to go in Phoenix, and the name echoed all the way to Florida. Nowa days, well it is my belief that Charlie's since all of the remodel and renovations, is now on par with OZ

The NEW Charlies
By soccereagle01 on 01/12/2007
I saw some old, old reviews of Charlies before the remodel. I have to say that if you have stayed away because of it's old image, you're definitely missing out!! The dance floor is 3 times the size of the old one and the music is absolutely awesome!! Line dancing, two-stepping, after hours, Charlies has it all! No more scary lady with a hot dog stand out by the volleyball court, now they have real food (and it's awesome!) Check out the new Charlies and I guarantee you will have a good time.

First time for me last night..we actually checked out the after hours. I am female and went w/ a guy friend. I liked the fact that even though I was a major minority, nobody seemed to care. The sexual engery was incredible there even if it wasn't directed towards me. ;) The guys were all really cool the music was awesome so have to say I'll probably be back for some more dancing!
