The couple who helped popularize the salad/pizza/wine bar trend is now making a big splash in the revitalized Roosevelt historic district near downtown Phoenix. Karen and Tony Martingilio were trendsetters when they introduced Grazie in Scottsdale, and they haven't lost their touch. The charming Cibo ("food" in Italian) is in a beautifully restored 1913 home. The three intimate dining areas feature hardwood floors, exposed brick, a stained-glass panel and a fireplace. The modestly-priced food is first-rate, featuring fresh, locally-grown organic produce that highlights half a dozen salads. They're a prelude to a series of dynamite pizzas: thin-crust, slightly crisp and a bit chewy. The salads and the 12-inch pizzas are big and best shared if you order them both. Cibo's Capriccioso is loaded with ham, mushrooms, artichokes and olives. The Quatro Formaggi, a white pizza, offers a four-cheese melt of Fontina, Parmesan, pecorino and mozzarella. To better appreciate the delicious, fragrant tomato sauce, try the basic Margherita, with just cheese, sauce and basil. You can top it off with Cibo's incredible dessert crepes.

Bad Experience
By KATHOM726 on 07/02/2008
My partner and I eat out everyday. This restaurant is NOT on our go back to list. Pizza is ok, but you must order the selection they have designed ,no make up of your own toppings. But that is only to be expected; We were with another couple. and like to take care of ourselves...We ask the server if we could have two checks, One for each couple. She was quite clear, "no seperate checks" They agreed, to put two amounts on seperate cards. but refused to add the tax for us. Fiinally they did but with the notice they would NEVER do it again. We quietly let the manager know as we left that we would not return. His comment"fine, we don't need your business"! We are not difficult people and normally well received by the restaurants we frequent. We are also normally well over 20% tippers! I am in the type of business that I can reach many people coming into Phoenix and I will let them know that customer service is horrible. Also tacky paper napkins and served a 14.00 dollar salad with dry bread and no butter,or olive oil mix for it.ONE THING THEY HAVE PERFECTED IS ARROGANCE.

Poor Service
By Phoenixpartyof3 on 07/02/2008
The pizza was fair but the attitude of the employees was the worst,if you want to eat there you do it their way,the word customer has been left out of their training. They should all go to Oreganos for their customer service training.

Trendy but Comfortable!
By TTHOMYGIRL on 06/18/2008
I went in on a busy, busy, early evening and the place was jumping. I barely got a spot at the corner of the bar. GREAT WINE LIST! The appetizers I had were really tasty. The Capriscicoso Pizza was just DIVINE! I couldn't have eaten another bite. (Well, maybe Dessert.) But I wanted to! I'd like to go again when they are not so busy to taste some other items on the menu, but met a few people while I was there who said they had returned to CIBO many times. My only complaint was that they did not have coffee, latte, or expresso! I can't wait to go again.
