For many in the Valley, Durant's is a shrine to the way dining used to be: great service, simple food, and honest quality. Open in this location since the early 1950s, Durant's has built a zealous following for their steaks and seafood. With curvy red leather booths, wait staff in tuxedos, velvety ruby-red wallpaper and cigars on the menu; you almost expect to find Dean Martin waiting in the lounge. The original entrance on Central Avenue still works, but most patrons enter from the parking lot through the kitchen where chefs and waiters are accustomed to greeting guests as they head for the dining room. Once inside, steak is star attraction, with a variety of cuts cooked to order and served complete with soup and vegetables. Fresh seafood is flown in daily, with live-tanked Maine Lobster available all year. On weekend nights, those without reservations can find themselves spending an hour or so in the lounge while waiting for a table -- which might not be so bad. Bartenders here claim to mix the best Martini in the Valley. -- Jill McCabe

The only restaurant I can really brag about!
By RBakeremai on 06/11/2008
High class is their method, yet they aren't snobby. They have it right, and of course the food is always impressive and delicious. Have yet to encounter bad service after 12 years as my favorite place to eat. Whether you're in shorts after a baseball game for lunch or wearing a tux at dinner, they treat you like gold. Pricing may seem steep to some, but for what you get it's a relative bargain. For perspective, I have never liked liver of any kind, except for their grilled Chicken Liver, it's amazing. If you're thinking about eating there, DO IT, I'll guarantee you'll have a favorite new place, and at the very least a place you can recommend without hesitation. Only the most impossible customer would find it anything other than fantastic, and those people just don't deserve Durant's.

I wrote 1 review and all I can say is everything about the restaurant was terrible. From the decor , to the management, to the wait staff, and especially the food. Reading the other reviews, I must have been in a different place. The need to stop living on their laurels.
