The famous Four Peaks Brewery pub was such a hit in Tempe that it expanded into the North Valley. Four Peaks Grill and Tap drew thirsty and hungry crowds from the day it opened in a Scottsdale shopping center. It serves the same brews and ales that earned its Tempe brewery every local award -- even the World Beer Cup Award -- for its top-notch beers that are brewed in Tempe and trucked to Scottsdale. It would be impossible for a modern-day shopping center location to provide the same charm as Tempe's 100-plus-year-old red brick building, but lots of effort has gone into Scottsdale's interior design to add warmth and color.The pub grub for lunch and dinner is as tasty as the beer. The large appetizers are first-rate, including Arizona Chicken Rolls -- grilled chicken with cheese and Anaheim chilies wrapped in a delicate pastry, then lightly fried. Spinach Artichoke Dip is a creamy cheese blend with artichoke hearts, spinach, red peppers and roasted garlic. Pizzas offer far better quality than the big chains. Favorites like the Margherita, BBQ Chicken and Classic Italiano offer more than 20 toppings. Half-pound burgers and juicy sandwiches, including a great salmon BLT, are served with crisp, beer-battered fries. Vegetarians also have several choices, including the Thai Hummus and Portobello Beer Bread Sandwich wrapped in hearty, spongy flat bread. Prices are quite reasonable, with most burgers and appetizers in the $5-$7 range. Happy hour runs from 3-7PM, seven days a week, featuring $2.50 pints and $9 pitchers.
