Rate and Write a Review This cornerstone of the super-successful Mastro Group continues its reign as one of the Valley's favorite expense-account steakhouses. Like Marco Polo, Drinkwater's and other Mastro restaurants, it envelops you in a nostalgic time warp. You're again in the golden age '50s and '60s era of ritzy supper clubs with Sinatra-style lounge acts, romantic dancing and elegant dining. This atmosphere is what sets Mastro's apart. Like other high-end steakhouses, the beef is prime and dry-aged; portions and prices are enormous. It has a smart-looking, retro look with comfortable, high-backed chairs for relaxing over pre-dinner cocktails. Wood-paneled walls are adorned with homey family photos. Customers are mostly stylish, over-30 adults who leave their expensive cars with valet attendants rather than using available free parking. Waiters in crisp, white waistcoats and sophisticated lighting add to the luxurious dining experience. Mastro's appetizer list is outstanding, with classic items like oysters Rockefeller and a seafood platter mounded with well-seasoned fresh shrimp, clams, mussels and calamari. A couple of seafood entrees are among entrees, but the obvious emphasis is on highest-quality beef. Among five different cuts, the 22-ounce, bone-in rib eye is outstanding, fork-tender and richly marbled. The 16-ounce New York strip and 18-ounce T-bone are peerless. You'll pay $25-$30 for one of these a la carte steaks, and $6-$7 each for side orders. Mastro's also scores big with its luscious, housemade desserts, particularly rich creme brulee, chocolate-dipped strawberries and dense, creamy cheesecake. -- Cecil Tuck
