Old Town Scottsdale is rocking with an unusual blend of cultures that appeals to the young, hip and trendy. Stingray serves all the traditional Japanese fare, but it also includes an exciting Latin influence. You'll still be greeted at the door in Japanese and served a traditional "oshibori" hot towel, in Japanese tradition. But the Latin influences are reflected in everything from the colors on the walls to the spices in the sushi. Cilantro and jalapeno add a lively new twist to some of the combination platters, which are served in the customary wooden sushi boats. You can wash it down with the newest drink favorites from Japan, such as Sochu, a wheat-based wine in contrast to rice-based sake. The cultural blend is also evident in the vibrant dcor, with mango and mandarin colored walls and a handcrafted zebra wood sushi bar. One cultural phenomenon you likely won't find is a cell phone. As a custom of the house, those caught using them are playfully chastised by servers and other customers.

Parasite Infection, beware
By beshal on 08/12/2007
I'm surprised this place has not been shut down. I was there in June. I had the ikura with quail egg. The service was awful. When it arrived, I noticed it was warm, and the egg didn't look correct. When I ate it, I knew something was wrong. I was sick for the next 3 weeks from a parasite infection.. I have eaten sushi for over 20 years, and this is the first sushi bar that made me ill. There is nothing special to this place, the sushi is run of the mill, the service, well, the staff needs to be trained, and it is extremely overpriced. Plus, from my experience, the are not keeping the fish and eggs at the proper storage tempature. Again, this is a fad restaurant, and its a discrase to call it a good sushi bar.
