The staff at El Chorro Lodge take pride in a 60-year tradition of fine food, uncompromising class and breathtaking mountain scenery. The menu lists hearty staples such as charbroiled steaks, prime rib rack of lamb and beef Stroganoff. El Chorro's ocean fare includes swordfish, crab cakes, fresh oysters and orange roughy. On Sundays, the lavish outdoor brunch draws diners from throughout the Valley. Rustic in design with its copper treatments and Western artwork, the landmark lodge features a roomy patio famous for its view of another important Valley landmark, the majestic Camelback Mountain. A well-timed dinner on the patio comes with the mountain in the distance, the stars above and the lodge's signature sticky buns before you. -- April Bryan

Not so good
By cagalazin70 on 01/08/2007
This restaurant is mainly patronized by the senior sect. If you are under 40 you will feel like a pariah. The food is geared towards those on a very bland diet. The management looks and acts like they are very tired of working in the restaurant business. The only interesting thing that will appear on your table is the bread basket which contains cinnamon rolls.

EL CHORRO

It doesn't get any better. The food, service, view, and Old Arizona ambiance makes this spot the best in the Valley! Try it and you will agree. The "Sticky Buns" are to die for. The bar is the most friendly in the area. Great snacks and a good stiff pour. Enjoy!!!!

Best Sticky Buns
By hjmover on 03/16/2006
I have eaten at El Chorro twice without reading a review. I was really surprised to see people complain about the food quality and service. I had excellent experiences. El Chorro was recommended by a friend who once lived in Phoenix. I am glad he did. The sticky buns are some of the most delicious I have ever eaten. I went back the second time just to have some more, and to order the fried shrimp, since I saw these jumbo shrimp on plates during my first visit. I had steak on my first visit, with a fried lobster as an appetizer. I had never eaten fried lobster so I had to try some. Although the lobster was fine, the tasty was very unique. I think I would have preferred the lobster boiled but I am glad to have the experience. Then the sticky buns came. I thought I went to heaven. They are just amazing. I almost did not have room for my steak, which was decent, but not overly memorable. The check was memorable. The bill was expensive but well worth it for the beautiful atmosphere and views of the mountains, as well as the decent food and fantastic sticky buns. The next time I went for the fried shrimp and retried the fried lobster. I feel the same about it - lobster should not be fried, but I will add the taste is very unique. The shrimp I got were huge. The coating had a coconut flavor and the meal was delicious. The sticky buns only made my experience better. I am heading back to Phoenix/Scottsdale in a few weeks. I cannot wait to go back - even if my wallet will be thinner from the experience.

food quality very poor

they boast 1600degree broiler to cook their steaks.....My steak (12 oz New York)...was luke warm, wasn't seared like it shoud be with 1600degree broiler....The carpet in the dining room smells as if it hasn't been cleaned or replaced since the 70's...Our server, while efficient, did nothing to make the experience anything more than "chain-like"....Sure the views are great and the ambience harkins back to a simpler time...But given the prices, I would rather go to a real restaurant that cooks with high quality ingredients and is served by people who CARE!!!!!...It's a once a year restaurant..it that's onl;y because on the patio and view....The owner Joe, needs to retire and hands the reins to someone who has eaten in a great restaurant in the last twenty years....
