Whether it's the wraparound bar with the chain-smoking ale-master or the ballustraded balcony where the bands jam, the Blues Cafe resembles a slow-paced saloon out of South Dakota. But this is the place where the Iron City and Yeungling drafts flow like rivers and former steel workers come to catch some tunes -- and with the Primanti Brothers sandwich shop next door (sharing both a corridor and clientele), a place couldn't get more authentically Pittsburgh. Grit and darkness make up the Blues Cafe's decor, but so do gruffly hospitable barkeeps and guffawing, pint-swilling regulars. The Blue Note Cafe gathers musical acts from both the neighborhood and across the country, joining jam bands, blues crews, jazz players and a host of acoustic artists into an eclectic nightly line-up. A favorite pit stop for bikers, scenesters and old-fashioned blues aficionados, the Blues Cafe is a place where the tap is always running and the rhythm is always going.

By lshppyhr6 on 09/13/2006
While walking between drinks on the bar, Michael Todd rocks the place every friday from 6-8 pm. With outstanding vocals and boundless energy this is, by far, the best happy hour in Pgh and the always entertaining Todd kicks off the weekend in unforgetable fasion!
