so-so
I've eaten here a few different times- I had a good meal and few mediocre ones. The ambience is nice but the food is expensive and on at least one occassion I did not feel it was worth it. The fact that they are "cash only" is a serious inconvenience.
Bring cash. Lots of it.
This place was a wonderful experience in almost every repect: the food was amazing, the beer selection varied and high quality, the service attentive and the atmosphere uniquely charming. BUT BE WARNED: They don't take credit cards, and it's not cheap.
Really - if you're a diner or a hipster smoking bar or a coffee shop and don't want to take credit cards, it's understandable, but this place's refusal to move into the modern era of banking is largely inexcusable. You'd think the mid-meal ATM run was practically part of the experience by the number of people I saw asking the barkeep where the nearest one was.
So go here, and enjoy their wonderful cuisine, but bring cash, and bring more than you think you'll need. Our recent dinner for two was over $100 with drinks, and the nearest ATM was out of order, leading to an unpleasant detour from our culinary flight.
FABULOUS-CHIC
I dine out often in this city and I think Dish is one of the best places in Pittsburgh. Its comparable to something you'd find in Europe; or New York City. I guess because the owners are young, hip-looking Italian men. They've done a great job renovating the building. The tin ceiling in the bar area is beautiful. The retaurant is dimly lit and the main dining area is very intimate. Its very off-the-beaten-patch chic.
The food is incredible. The meats and cheeses are great. The salmon dish is my favorite. They also have very tasty martinis and wonderful wine.
