If you just flew in from out of town (and boy, are your arms tired!), and you're aching for a good laugh, there's only one place to go. No, no, not a Pirates game! Try the FunnyBone, Pittsburgh's unparalleled house of giggles, gags and guffaws. When George Carlin comes to town, he tickles the FunnyBone and the same goes for Jerry Seinfeld, Jay Leno and Dennis Miller (jeez, no audience and the place is already packed!). For a measly cover charge you can enjoy live comedy, upscale ambiance, and the FunnyBone's famous two-drink minimum (Not laughing yet? Have another daiquiri!). Regular open mic nights test the skills (term not always used loosely) of stand-up wannabes, and the stage is regularly booked with nationally acclaimed (and disclaimed) comedians. Lavishly decorated with enormous paintings and a red-curtained stage, this is more than your smoky, two-bit comedy dive; the FunnyBone has received press accolades for nearly two decades. It's not just the best in town -- it's the only one in town. -- Robert Isenberg

NO LAUGHING MATTER!!!!!
By erixron on 09/28/2006
Last night at the Funny Bone in Station Square I, along with several other patrons, shared one of the most horrific experiences that ever took place in a comedy club. This grossly incompetent, rude, and uneducated waitress screwed up the bills of nearly the entire audience. But that wasn’t the worst part of it! Instead of being accountable for her mistake and poor judgment, she became argumentative, combative, irate and rude. She made a total ass of herself, and compounded her stupidity by perpetuating an embarrassing scene for the club. I was completely mortified. We were told, “This is the way we do it here, we are not going to be giving out all of these separate checks!” “You are going to have to figure this out amongst yourselves!” All this drama, when it was the staff that assigned everyone to a particular seat in the first place; and my seat happened to be next to a total stranger that had no desire to take care of my tab, or haggle over splitting a bill! The bottom-line is, all of the guest suffered the inconvenience of being detained because the Funny Bone employs a waitress that can’t add and subtract: even with aid of a cash register. She lacks the couth and problem solving skills associated with the position of a server, and desperately needs to be relieved! What I find the most unforgivable and the most damaging, was when we were all held hostage by the Funny Bone management, and forbidden to leave until receiving a hand stamp from the blundering server. In her moronic state, the waitress threatened to call the police if we left. She even screamed at people who already paid their portion of the bill, and were waiting for a stamp so they could leave and try to salvage what was left of their evening. AND on top of that, she had the audacity to demand gratuity!!!!!!! My advice to Funny Bone’s management is to invest in some remedial math courses for their staff and maybe a few flash cards. The next time this happens (and it will), they won’t have to object so strongly to separating checks because with a collective effort they may be able to pull it off! Either way, I will NEVER return to that establishment again!!!!!
