A landmark establishment and probably one of the most unusual Mexican restaurants you'll ever visit, Franklin Inn is full of surprises. From the picture of good old Ben Franklin on the sign outside, to the fun, flamboyant decorations inside, a cross-cultural vibe clearly is in effect. Every meal here begins with a basket of chips and salsa (ask for the hot stuff -- it gets rave reviews). That should hold you over as you skim the menu's broad selection of Mexican dishes. If you prefer your south-of-the-border fare with a kick, try one of the restaurant's sausage dishes. The enchiladas also are popular; all are prepared with sauces that boast real depth. The bar at Franklin Inn takes up a good portion of the floor plan, and often is filled with friendly, boisterous locals who crowd in for cold drinks, warm conversation and big laughs.
