Fans of Abruzzi's -- and there are plenty of them -- aren't all that concerned about maintaining a high profile. Located in an unassuming rowhouse, this Northern Italian spot is sometimes overlooked by folks searching for flash and splash. Leave those to the chain restaurants and head here, where the atmosphere is cozy, the dining room is intimate, and the decor is tasteful and charming. Abruzzi's lines 'em up out the door for one reason: authentic Italian cuisine, emphasizing fresh ingredients and simple-yet-elegant preparation. Brothers Joe and Claudio Masci emigrated from Italy's Abruzzi region in the late 1950s, and their restaurant reflects that area's love of well-prepared, unfussy dishes such as polenta, risotto and hearty sausages. Don't overlook the small but well-stocked bar, either, which specializes in a generous array of Italian wines.

By far my favorite Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh. The owners come out and ask you how everything is, and it's always great.

Look, I am up for any new experience. I love to try new places, and seek out places with a feel all of their own. I always look to others comments online to see what their opinions were first, and I was sadly let down with all of the "hype and kudos" given to this restaurant. The decor is hip, which is great. That is about where the greatness ended. Our waiter had the attitude of a shoe, offering no "interaction" what so ever. He basically took our order, and brought our check. Now, for the food. Ughh, the food. I personally ordered the pollo parmiangio (sp), chicken parmesean basically. The sauce was BLAND. I'm not kidding, it was like they poured tomato sauce from a can, added sugar, and served it. No seasoning what so ever. HORRIBLE. My friend ordered the stuffed banana peppers with veal. Once again, BLAND, almost tasteless. My guests ordered the "chicken soup" du jour. This place should be called "BLAND ABRUZZI'S". I cannot emphasize how "lacking taste" meal overall was. My friend ordered gnocchi. He said the sauce might have well been Chef Boyardee. He also ordered a simple "rusty nail" drink, which they made with whiskey and gingerale. We could have eaten at Bravo's and saved $30.00. Drinks are $8.00 a piece, the food is EXTREMELY high, especially considering the quality. Please, I am not difficult to please, but this is the worst Italian food I have ever eaten in my life.
