Rate and Write a Review Though it's a bit of a hike (45 minutes or so) from downtown Pittsburgh, this romantic restaurant is popular with city couples celebrating special occasions. It serves just as well, of course, if you simply wish to enjoy classic cuisine with good friends and family. The restaurant is actually an antique-filled house, built in 1806. In keeping with its history, the atmosphere here is comfortable, but with an upscale undercurrent. Relax at the downstairs tavern with a drink (and an appetizer to hold you over), then hike up to your preferred dining space -- in addition to the main room, Back Porch has a number of patios, as well as a veranda and sun porch. The chef puts a unique stamp on traditional fare such as tuna steak, spare ribs, duck chambord and a mixed grilled trio, usually comprising chicken, seafood and beef. For lunch -- or a light supper -- check out Back Porch's broad variety of homemade soups and salads. The place fills up on most evenings, especially weekends and holidays, so reservations are recommended. After all, you won't find fare like this on your own back porch.
