Bar 11 is nearly impossible to find unless you know someone. Think of those movie scenes where an actor has to give a password before entering a mysterious locale. Bar 11's door is unmarked and its yellow-brick building trimmed with Christmas lights gives no indication that this is a notorious party place. But fear not you don't need a password and the bouncers and bartenders here will not only make you feel welcome, they'll entertain you as well. Their antics tie in nicely with Bar 11's drinks (which are filled with party favors) and the bar's aluminum-foil decor. Ever since the owner opened this South Side landmark, it has attracted a diverse crowd with a majority of college-aged singles. It's not a great date place per se -- unless you're OK with your date drawing on, and being drawn on by, total strangers with glow-in-the-dark markers (to enhance the bar's black-lit-at-all-times interior, of course). Forget catching a Steelers game or the Penguins playoffs. The only TV is permanently set on the Cartoon Channel, and the music is a mix of punk, rock and heavy metal. Be prepared for a shoulder-to-shoulder crowd on weekends. -- Jolie Kenney

Remember those lame house-parties you went to before you were 21? Same concept, except this time it's legal. If you miss that "house party comp CD" music and the Freshman minded crowd, then go for nostalgia's sake. Otherwise, you've been warned. One star for the candy necklaces.
