It's been a city fixture since the 1950s, so it's no surprise Beto's is a favorite stop for South Hills pizza lovers. Some consider the trademark offering here an acquired taste -- pies are served bubbling hot, while toppings such as pepperoni, sausage and veggies are added only after the pizzas emerge from the oven. Whatever your preferences, Beto's is a beloved local institution, and out-of-town visitors consider it quintessentially Pittsburghian. (Al Gore even stopped in while he was campaigning for the U.S. presidency.) Beto's also serves a broad variety of tasty hoagies, salads, antipasto and side dishes. Want to feed a large group? The 28-slice pie should do the trick. Beto's business is largely takeout, but there's a small dining area for those who want to dig in without delay.

Missing Beto's in Atlanta
By CookieLady287 on 06/13/2008
We live in Atlanta and cannot find decent pizza or hoagies - they don't even know what a hoagie is! Beto's is the best - great pizza and even greater hoagies. We make a special trip every time we come home to the 'Burgh! There's no place like home!!
