The name means "new trend" in Portuguese, and Bossa Nova has certainly created one among Downtown workers and Pittsburgh's beautiful people. This open, airy and gorgeous space offers a spectacular location in which to see and be seen. The constantly shifting lighting and the silk panels hanging overhead combine for a dramatic setting. Get there early if you want one of the comfortable seats near the front window. The center of the room is dominated by an oval bar, which serves up colorful drinks to the thirsty hordes. The food takes a backseat to the atmosphere here, but the tapas-oriented menu shouldn't be overlooked. Order several small plates and share with friends -- or potential friends. Raw and smoked seafood items dominate the menu, but Spanish meats and cheeses also figure heavily. -- Bob Braughler
