Rate and Write a Review In the world of Walnut Street, where visitors are famous for dropping hundreds of dollars on sushi, slacks and antidepressants, Cappy's Cafe is a pleasant reminder that Pittsburgh was not founded on khakis. Comfortable, casual and packed with locals, Cappy's is a beer-and-a-shot tavern armed with an impressive jukebox and a cigarette dispenser in the basement. Whether you're screaming at the Penguins on the TV or you're slurping a Sunday morning Bloody Mary, you'll find an easygoing atmosphere at Cappy's, where regulars alternate between New England microbrews and good old Yeungling. While most people don't take advantage of the breakfast menu (that's Pamela's territory), Cappy's is a favorite pit-stop for Carnegie-Mellon students searching for affordable pitchers, and serves as a pleasant alternative to Shadyside's better known (read: more expensive) locales. Conversation is always good at Cappy's Cafe, and the big windows, with a nice view of the street, make a perfect perch for people-watching.
