Say the phrase "Mediterranean food" and a range of delights comes to mind: Greek veal, Italian pasta, Sicilian seafood. In Pittsburgh, the discerning diner thinks Casbah, the chicest locale for a diverse range of Adriatic and North African plunder. Particularly luxurious in the summer, when Casbah's shaded outdoor portico is open for warm-weather lounging, this eatery is built of baked-clay walls, constructed in the shape of a Moroccan mosque, and decorated with statues, pillars and potted ferns. Under the expert supervision of its kitchen, Casbah prepares an incomparably exotic brunch, lunch and dinner menu, including banon cheese with warmed thyme-honey, petite crab sandwich, pan-roasted sturgeon, sea scallops with asparagus and figs, and yes, the requisite Elysian lamb with sausage made on the premises. Not to be outdone by Shadyside's stiff restaurateur competition, Casbah also serves up one of the best wine lists in the region, with Arianna Chardonnay, Beringer Rivefort de France and an Amazir French blend from Morocco.

quality and quantity

Extremely busy yet friendly service caters to your every need. PLUS one of the best meals I've had in years. The pasta dish of orccheiette with chicken and cranberries in a creamy gorganzola sauce was TO DIE FOR. I awoke to leftovers the next morning and as I ate I thought * If heaven has food...I pray that this is it*.

Perfect

We had dinner at the Casbah this week. Everything was great. Service, selection, staff and most of all the food. A top notch place, that is worth the effort. My only complaint was the wine by the glass selections at happy hour where the Casbah takes the $10 wines and makes them $5. For this they need a better selection. Other than that a perfect place for a meeting, date, or special occassion dinner not to be forgotton.

From start to finish, the food; the drink; the service and the atmosphere Casbah is simply the best Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh as well as the surrounding area.
