On the edge of Shadyside's chic Ellsworth shopping corridor of galleries, boutiques and antique stores, the Elbow Room offers a variety of midpriced American and Mediterranean dishes in a classy dining space that adjoins a bar. For a sandwich-size appetite, the menu offers choices such as turkey and broccoli, a tuna melt with muenster cheese and an excellent chargrilled burger. Dinner specialties include New York strip steak served with red-skin potatoes, Mediterranean-style pasta and salads of spinach and chicken with artichokes and feta. Chicken fingers and wings are available for snacking, along with pita and hummus, and fried zucchini. A visit to the Elbow Room is a filling and unpretentious way to top off a day of Shadyside haute couture.

Our Rendevous

When I lived in Pittsburgh, a few years back, my friend and I found this place to be special. We would pick it every time to meet and unwind with good food. While the restroom wasn't anything to brag about, I tried to stay out of there, and just enjoyed the food and the atmosphere of regular people enjoying themselves. Their onion rings are fantastic!!

snooty community, cheap atmosphere

The burgers are not good. The place is packed with people who want you to think they're more than they are. The bathrooms are gross. The atmosphere isn't right for a 'good' burger. The waitress tried way too hard to schmooz us over; it was almost disgusting. I enjoy eating McDonald's over this place. Really.
