Yeah, Gullifty's looks nifty if you come through the front, with its retro block-glass windows, but the back way's nice, too. Look down the walkway and you get an eagle's-eye view of the dining room, where you can choose one of two types of seating: a sunlit table under the skylight, made brighter by the greenery that lines the center of the room and cooler by ceiling fans, or a table off to the side, with its soft lighting for romantic nights out. The menu includes salads that can make a meal (grilled-tuna nicoise or steak-and-potato salad), Tuscan sandwiches (garlic chicken, roasted pepper, pine nuts, tomato and Fontina cheese) and seafood pomodoro (shrimp and scallops simmered in from-scratch roasted garlic sauce). Then there are seasonal items such as weiner schnitzel and potato pancakes -- all in full display during Oktoberfest. Wash everything down with some Bass or Guinness from the bar, or perhaps with some cool jazz on Monday nights.

Great Desserts!
By honeyekr on 07/02/2007
My husband and I have eaten at Gullifty's several times over the past few years. While we have never been overly impressed with the entree selections (the food is nothing I would call special), their dessert menu is excellent. I have never had a bad dessert. The ten pound apple pie is delicious. If you are a chocolate lover, you have to try the 5th Dimension Cake. I have ordered it twice and never been able to finish more than half in one sitting. Their dessert portions are definitely generous. We have seen a few jazz performances and been generally pleased. However, once they were a bit crowded and despite the fact that my husband and I were there alone trying to have a nice evening out, the manager came over and pushed a whole bunch of tables up against our table and sat 8 other people practically on top of us! The manager claimed that they needed to do that because it was difficult to see the stage from some of the other locations in the restaurant, but I think it was because he didn't want to turn away a group of college guys who were there just to eat. If it weren't for the desserts, we probably wouldn't go back, but their desserts really are the best.

Pittsburgh's Worst Jazz Venue
By arapcman1 on 06/25/2007
Pittsburgh's Worst Jazz Venue, Music to ones ear is merely subjective, however, compairing and contrasting the type of Jazz that is being played is not what I would call "good Jazz/Blues music". The synthasized keyboard and the terriable accustics do not do justice for the current stage performers. Granted this venue gives starving musicans a place to practice. I would not go rushing off to here just the music. For the food, which is just so so. to the somewhat amusing waitstaft that I found to be very unprofessional the night I was there. I know I wont be back!!!

Pittsburgh's best live jazz ve
By makahuna130 on 01/19/2007
Gullifty's is by far the best Jazz venue this side of Harlem. You can hear live music 5 nights a week. We walked in on a Saturday night and heard world renowned trumpet player Sean Jones.... he was killin". Wed night is a jam session hosted by Kenny Blake. We also saw Larry Coryell with Paul Wertico and Mark Egan one night. The new menu is by far much better than the old with new items like bbq ribs, pork shanks and pulled pork and corn bread to die for..... The sauce is the best and award winning via the "Emeril live show" For a great night out check out this old but brand new restaurant / jazz club
