You won't find much in the way of atmosphere at this city institution. Long, connected tables in the center of the space evoke a school cafeteria, while the waitstaff flaunts what can generously be called a hands-off approach. (Landing a coffee refill sometimes can be challenging.) Still, nobody comes to Jo Jo's for fine china and Park Avenue pampering; they come for no-fuss food. And in a place that recalls a time when the Strip District was ruled by truckers delivering freight, the orders arrive hot and quick. Though the menu lists all manner of dishes, breakfast offerings are the cornerstone here. The Jo Jo omelet, in particular, takes the morning feast to a new level -- with three eggs, onions, green and red pepper, mushrooms and your choice of bacon, ham or sausage, it may be bigger than your stomach. Still going? Dig into the home fries and hot Italian toast. If that doesn't carry you through 'til lunch, there's little chance anything will.

Five Stars For BREAKFAST...
By pghhgg31 on 04/09/2007
The food is great, especially the breakfast item's. Great if you have been drinking and want a sure way to avoid a hang-over the next day. The service SUCKS. The servers are rude, short, they rush you to place your order, and if you ask for extra anything beware...they feel their job is done once you recieve your order. They never come back to see if you need any refills on your drink or to ask if the food is to your satisfaction. I have always had to walk up to the register to ask for my bill...could have just stiffed them on packed nights but hey I am an honest person. The late night crowd on the weekend is very diverse and often times it is hard to get a seat. I say place a carry-out order or call ahead for one on those nights. The young cook, one of two, has a look on his face like he has been seriously constipated for months and he needs a good fleet enema to release all that pain. The older cook, who I think may be the owner, is the better of the two, as I think the younger cook is his son or at least a relative of some sort. I do not get to go there as often as I use to but when I did frequent the place almost every weekend back in my party day's the server's still treated me as though they had never seen me before despite always leaving them a good tip, even for a take out order. I never leave a tip now. Let them make up the loss when they report their wages to the welfare office...it will help increase their foodstamps they receive each month!

The price is right, The food is very good, and You get enough to fill up a Horse. The only downside is get their early or You won't find a seat. Every time I have been their I have to ask for a take out container, because I can't eat it all their.

Pot Luck
By edkumi on 06/02/2005
The food quality is very inconsistent. Jo Jo's had one of the finest Italian Hoagies I've ever ordered. Unfortunately, this was only once as subsequent hoagies were fair to poor in quality. I am embarrassed to think I recommended the hoagies to my friends.
