After years in decline, Kelly's has rebounded with a major facelift; its Art Deco facade and interior have been refurbished to their 1940s glory. Thanks to a broad range of microbrews, imports and domestics on tap -- and its newly chic retro ambience -- Kelly's is again a popular nighttime hangout in the East End. The blazing neon cocktail glass points to one of Kelly's specialties: mixed drinks. From the classic vodka martini and cosmo to the Gibson and Cuba Libra, Kelly's serves up top-shelf drinks, which are all the more enjoyable in the stylish space. As for the menu, you'll enjoy small, interesting dishes that include chargrilled chicken satay with peanut sauce, jerk-chicken sandwiches, tilapia fish tacos and crab dumplings. The jukebox alone makes a visit worthwhile -- the collection offers a heady mix of Hank Williams, Nirvana and Frank Sinatra.

My wife and I got to Kelly's a couple of weeks ago on a Friday afternoon and it was TOTALLY packed....20 minutes after it's 5:00PM opening!

Something about this place is warm and inviting - a touch of a dive with a touch of class. Great brew selection. I hope this is the beginning of neighborhood turnaround. Wish I could get there more

I have been going to kelly's since they reopened. The place has one of the best, if not most unique jukeboxes in Pittsburgh. They also have an excellent selection of beers and liquor. The service and food are good. The only drawback to the place is the space. Hopefully they will get the back deck open to take some traffic away from the main flow of the bar.

We went to Kelly's last Saturday night around 10:30. There was a good mix of people -- very eclectic -- including a group of yahoos who were evidently taking part in a Country Western theme night of some sort. The ambience was festive, which was driven by the classic rock tunes blaring out of the jukebox. Gripes? The place seems to have been converted from a cozy little diner, and it is tight. The problem is the stools in front of the bar area (where it is clear that patrons in the diner days could chow down an omelet with some Joe). The area in front of the bar is far too narrow, and with the decent crowd that was in there, you couldn't move. One uncalculated move, and you were stumbling into somebody. I'm not the claustrophobic type, either. The bartenders were quick to serve – but certainly not overly friendly. Not a bad place, and certainly a nice addition to the part of town, which needs some growth. Is it GREAT? Nahh… but I guess I’d go back. Overall, it's definitely worthwhile of checking out.
